Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 1988, Simon Söfelde developed an interest in composing music during his teenage years. He commenced his formal education at the Gotland School of Music Composition, continued at the Malmö Academy of Music, and later studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Under the guidance of esteemed professors such as Luca Francesconi, Detlev Möller-Siemens, Bent Sørensen, and Rolf Martinsson, Söfelde honed his skills as a composer.
Over the years, Söfelde has established himself as an international composer and musician, with his works performed in countries including England, Austria, Germany, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, China, the USA, Kurdistan and Sweden. He has collaborated with conductors such as Brad Lubman, Paul Mägi, Moon Ha, and Michael Bartosch, and his music has been commissioned and performed by numerous ensembles and orchestras, including the Brussels Philharmonic, Bèla Quartet, Ensemble mise-en, Ensemble CHROMA, Ars Nova and Norrköping Symphony Orchestra.
In 2019, he received a significant commission from the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, culminating in the symphonic work "Minnenas Skeende," which was premiered in 2019. Notably, in 2023, Söfelde won the first prize in the contemporary category at the 14th Piano Composition Competition Fidelio for his piece "Frammento morente," and he also achieved third prize at the She Lives Budapest Prize International Composition Competition.
In addition to his compositional activities, Simon is an accomplished and sought after touring guitarist, studio musician, arranger and album producer with past and current collaborations with artists like Albin Lee Meldau, Arvid Nero and Elin Ruth Sigvardsson.
